Special meeting occurred between Mr. Andrew Patrick, the newly appointed British High Commissioner, and Sajith Premadasa, the Leader of the Opposition in Sri Lanka. The meeting took place at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Colombo.
During this special gathering, both parties engaged in a discussion covering a wide range of social, economic, and political issues within the country. The meeting was convened in light of Mr. Patrick assuming his duties as the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Leader of the Opposition, brought to Mr. Patrick’s attention concerns regarding the current government’s alleged infringement upon the democratic rights of citizens. Specifically, he highlighted the government’s reluctance to hold elections promptly and its continuous postponement of elections.
Adding to the importance of this occasion, Daniel Sherry, Secretary of Political Affairs at the British High Commission, was also present.
